Polymath

pol·y·math

[pol-ee-math] Show IPA
noun
a person of great learning in several fields of study
This is one of my favorite words that I learned this year. I aspire to be a polymath. Currently, I am just a person of some learning in several fields of study. I spent the day at the Michigan Council of Social Studies conference in Lansing.

Social studies and geography are just two of the "found fibers" I weave into my work and my life.

I should have time tomorrow to work on my sculptures. I have things I want to finish up for the show I'll be hanging at the end of the month.

And so I begin...

I have started my blog.

Oh, I "set it up" quite a while back - but how can you say that you have a blog if you haven't written an entry? So, here is my first entry.

I spent a little time today working on the beginning of a possible new work of art.

I think I am just about done with "Sphere of Influence". It is a dome-like structure that is made of plastic cups from McDonald's, strips from plastic bags and wrappers and wire that was left behind when my school had wiring work done a few years back. There are four separate segments to this sculpture, and I have them sitting together. I am spending a few days living with it to see if that is the way the parts belong. When I am sure they are working well together, I will connect them into a unified whole.

Sometimes, waiting is part of the creative process.
